Title: Every cloud....
Post by: Plottie on January 22, 2005, 16:28:40
Brrrrrrrrrr.............it was soooooo cold this morning but MrP and I were determined to get down to the plot because
1. It's been raining so b****y hard all week we'd have needed a canoe to navigate the site if we'd gone down earlier and
2. Our seed potatoes were ready for collection from site shed (bulk order sent in for all in our allotment association)
So down we went all wrapped up and the morning was just lovely....frost everywhere making everything look so pretty.
Did a bit of tidying but weren't able to do any digging (wanted to enlarge one of the beds) as ground frozen.  But, (and here's the silver lining bit) the frost had firmed up the path to the extent that I was able to wheel my barrow to the free pile of wood chippings by the car park that I'd been enviously watching everyone else wheeling away when the path to my plot was too soggy to navigate.
Ended up barrowing numerous loads and used it over plastic membrane to form nice looking paths - well one and a half nice looking paths - will attempt to repeat the exercise tomorrow to finish what we've started.
Came home and laid all the seed pots out to chit in egg trays in conservatory...........so happy!!

Presumably the cold I got last weekend. It has been cold here all week so expect a few more silver linings- this morning at dawn it was -22C, now at midday it's crept up to -15C and we are about to get dumped on here, about 45cm of snow is forecast. Got anything else to move?

WOW John, now that's what I call a frost!!!  :o

All we seem to get here is rain, rain, rain and even a light frost (0c) is a welcome change.  My kids just love the snow (don't they all) but we're lucky if the sledges see the light of day more than once a year.

With 45cm of the white stuff looks like you'll be the one doing the moving! ...got a snow plough??   ;D

Snow shovel only. Snow ploughes generally need to be attached to $45,000 pick-up trucks, which is a little out of my budget for vehicles, and a macho attitude! Shovelling is much better exercise too and excuses for physical activity at this time of year are a rarity- every January I am so close to being a couch potato I'm afraid someone might chit me eventually!
