I have 25 cherries showing on a tree planted last year, not much but prefer not to lose them to the birds. I'd rather not net all the tree so are there any suggestions for just protecting the fruit?
The other thing is that I've read somewhere that you have to be careful pruning the tree, as it has suckers coming out from the bottom of the trunk, is it ok just to snip them off now or best to leave them to later in the year?
Cheers!
You could try pegging or tying some fleece over.. ::)..good luck.. ::) My tree does plenty of fruit but little ripen to maturity as I cannot protect mine due to size of the tree...birds are going to have right feast again this year.. ::)
You can ship your suckers off now...it is right time of the year for it..rather than leaving it later on.
Generally it is recommended for any stone fruit pruning to be done during from early summer until around end July-ish....
Thanks, very helpful as always.
By the way, planted the tomatoes out last week, 58 of them as couldn't decide which ones might be surplus ::)

Possibly the last 57? ;D ;D ;D
Tomatoes out...ohh..I wish..its good for some.. ::)
We've got frost warning given for next week.. :o GH toms are in but for outdoors that is still long way away.
So how many varieties you ended up sowing? 58.. ;D..that is lots of tomatoes to eat in couple of months time..
I'm not sure to be honest, I'll count them tomorrow. There are half a dozen or so mallorquines for hanging / storing and probably 2 or 3 each of others.
