Title: carrot fly
Post by: Karen Atkinson on April 27, 2011, 07:20:54
I filled a 2ft container with sifted soil last year and sowed carrot seeds  - the result was root fly (thought I'd got away with it re height of container and healthy looking tops). Question is now what can I use that soil for? Will it harbour larvae from last year? Can I spread it on the plot?

Yes but not on the root beds... spread it thinly and the birds will have any grubs. Or simply leave it and grow something else.. they will finish their life cycle and fly off looking for other roots...  ::)
