Have you managed to find some ? I had to plant some late in 2008 (May ) after the dreaded alium fly attacked , a bit small they were fine, ( sturon).

The Garden Centres will have stopped selling them now but you might still get them from Poundland and Wilkinsons and such places.  And you might be able to buy onion plants from nurseries, they would be a good bet.

One of the old guys on my plot was saying that his Dad used to sow a row of Bedfordshire Champion seeds and pull most of them out as spring onions leaving a few plants to go on to maturity.  Might be worth a try.

I would say its about the last week to get any sort of results, and they may be a bit small...

They are for the kids at nursery where I work to plant.... not overly bothered about results as long as some grow and they can see where veg really comes from :)

Have already got the potatoes in and have sown carrots so fingers crossed :)

Thank you Picman... they arrived safely and will be planted by the kids tomorrow.

Staff at work think I have gone crazy, was so excited when I saw parcel..... they wandered off in huff when they realised it was onions and not a bag of chocolates LOL

Thanks again  :)

That's nice, did picman send some sets?  :)

I would find opening a parcel of veg more exciting than chocolate too!  ;D

I found a pack of red onions that I had forgotten about today  ::) so bunged them in. With the lateness and the dryness of the soil I don't hold out much hope, but it's worth a try.
