Hi Fulcher & welcome to the boards.
Which plants did you have in mind, it's still early so you have probably got time to sow your own.
Where IS stokeby or clippsby?
If it's anywhere near me I'll sell you some - I've got tons to get rid of!
Hi thank you this is my first time writing on here. Only had my allotment for about 8 weeks and was a mess when i first got it.
Im in Great Yarmouth ive grow a few things from seed but my brussel sprouts and broccoli dont seem to going so well so am look for them at the mo.
You have plenty of time to do sprouts the weather is ind to everyone at the moment try 3 inch pots put three seeds to a pot a few weeks time you,ll be wondering what all the fuss was about. As for the rest try your allotment someone will have some spare plants they will be more thanhappy to help you.Wellcome to the boards enjoy yourself and all the best with your allotment :)
We do NOT buy them
We grow them from seed
The seeds are available in a lot of retail outlets and the packets can be reused if they are carefully resealed for use the following year.
Some nurseries do cash in by selling plants ready for planting and I would be the last person to say that they are not offering a service.
However. I suggest that you learn about sowing your own seeds and one of the best places to learn is on an allotment well used and owned by an experienved grower.
Lord, I have only just sown my brussels and you can sow broccoli now and all through May! I sow my brassica in a seedbed now and transplant out the plants when they are a few inches high. That seems to work fine for me, and I am a bit of a hopeless grower.

Plenty of time for these - resow and let them germinate somewhere cool - they don't need the heat of indoors or a greenhouse....
Sow your own, plenty of time left.
If you really want to purchase ready to go plants then check out google for your local plant nursery
We have a local one that's amazing, really cheap and handy for stuff that we usually forget !!!

You've still got time to sow:
carrots
beetroot
parsnips
spring onions
lettuce (never ever buy salad plants, such a waste of money!)
sprouts/broccoli and other brassicas
squashes/pumpkins/courgettes
cucumber
beans/peas
And plenty more stuff that I can't currently think of!
You could get some seed potatoes and plant them if you're quick (I've seen potato plants on sale in a DIY store, but seriously, don't bother!)
I buy cucumbers (well one, because the seed seems so expensive and I can't be bothered!) and tomatoes as I don't have a greenhouse or south facing windows, so they go all leggy and die if I start them from seed. I get them from a small independent local garden centre. I find the quality and choice is much better than from the DIY stores. If fact most plants that I've bought from DIY stores have died, so I don't go to them anymore.
I've really only started sowing, apart from chilis, toms, broad beans, peas and some salad. Plenty of time for frost yet..
try local markets and car boots. Garden centres are very expensive and try to get you to buy stuff way to early in the season - they have to make room for the Christmas decorations ???
Thank you for all your help will try a 3" pot see wot happens! its a big learning curve and really appreciate all your help. Ive sowed carrots, spring onions peas, potatos, leeks, pumpkins and beetroot on the allotment and there all going ok. And ive got my runner beans, sweetcorn, tomatos (tumbling toms), lettuce all growing fine in my shed with clear plastic roof. but my broccoli and brussel sprouts are not going so well
Don't worry about the brussels looking a bit odd at first, they always do.... broccolli isn't actually edible so I've never grown it....
