Title: Trusteer Rapport security software???
Post by: dtw on April 21, 2011, 20:46:09
My bank has suggested I use Trusteer Rapport to make my online banking more secure.
Has anybody used it?
Does it slow your PC down very much?
I was also worried about it secretly collecting information about your browsing habits.
Not that I do anything dodgy, but object to the principal.

surely it's your banks responsibility to make sure your online banking is secure. It's like someone saying they'll guarantee your safety, and oh by the way better   buy yourself a gun just in case.

when we were with RBS they  suggested that we downloaded it.
I had no problems at all.
However I decided to leave RBS - for a number of reasons :-X and now with Co-op so not got it any more ;

Similarly, I use it ... once again at the request of my bank.

I have no evidence that it slows things down and I have had no problems with it - it has been installed for over a year now.

It is their job to make it secure at their end and your job to make sure it is secure at yours.  The banks cant be responsible for the security of your PC so the suggestion that you use an encrypted tunnel is just the banks way of trying to secure the connection between the two parties.  Cant see an issue there.

In response to the original post then I certainly wouldn't worry about it slowing the PC down - it's fairly minimal.  Why would you think it collects data about browsing habits - you could say the same about any bit of software.

Highly recommended by us.  It'll protect other accounts too, such as Amazon, eBay, and Paypal which hold financial info.

I have installed it and not noticed any slow down.
It just detects and protects your banking (and some other) passwords from being typed into dodgy websites.

I have it (First Direct) and haven't had problems, but when my laptop was going slow recently, my OH said Rapport had recently updated and semed not to have removed the old version so was taking up a lot of space.
