Title: Question for the fellas
Post by: Jeannine on April 15, 2011, 22:32:40
What would you like for your dinner tomorrow?

I ask this question all the time and never get an answer. Answers I get   ,anything is good.. whatever.... you choose...everything you do is great...

Why do I have to think of what to do all by myself, he eats!!

So guys, give me some inspiration please.

What would you like for your dinner tomorrow?

Dessert is also made everyday.

Roast beef and vegetables plus mint sauce made with fresh mint from the garden followed by apple tart (pie? depends where you live) and a large piece of cheese.

Beloved other half always gives the same answer.............. Spaghetti bolognese................  handy as I freeze about 6 portions at a time.   I can add chili, and chillie beans to convert it to Chile or put mashed potato to it to make it cottage pie.

;D ;D..not much help there Jeannine..perhaps you should change your aproach.
Try.."I'm going to eat .... for dinner..take it or leave it..or you know where tin food and toaster is.." ;D ;)
I stopped asking long time ago..you are far too kind... ;) ;D..and dessert too :o..even I don't get that ::)
You don't fancy coming cooking here for month? Its far more easier if I don't have to do the gardening and cooking. ;D

Good post that.

It is true so many just eat what is put in front of them.

Lazy is probably the cause in a lot of cases.

Cook together I suggest.

Loads of food sites on line and lots of prgrammes on TV.

Yet there are still a lot of families where everyone one knows what day of the week it is by the meal served.

Too many families who mash up a solo meal of rubbish rather than cook together and eat together.

Sadly the take away joints are taking over most small towns and villages.

We used to have a fish and chip shop in our village  a baker and pubs who did pies in the evening now we have

4 Indian
2 Chinese
4 Italian
2 American
2 Fish and chips
3 Hot and cold Sandwiches and all day breakfasts
2 selling hot pies
several who sell all sorts of snacks and pre packed sandwiches.

There was a chicken take away which closed down and is now a hairdressers
We have nearly as many hairdressers now as we have take away meal places.

There are also Two supermarkets selling food to re-heat in the microwave and freezers full of stuff to quick cook.

I have no idea if any are good bad or indifferent . But they are there.

Please keep the noise down in the morning.

Well some ideas there, we don't eat take away, everything in thid house is cooked from scratch even the bread.

It would apperar that most men are just happy to eat, the foof just turns up and they eat it.

I have thought about picking something I really like and cooking day after day till he says something.

He was in big touble yesterday, he went to pick up  a few groceries and came back with a baked apple pie... oh eck did I ever get hot under the collar, why... he could give me no reason.. I cannot believe how upset I got..  I chucked the box pie on the floor and stomped on it, then binned it... He could not tell me what he wanted for diunner but he could buy a pie.. he could have said apple pie !"!

It's the same everywhere Jeannine, except if I ask the question, I get a smartarse answer like "smoked salmon terrine followed by fillet steak with foie gras sauce, and tiramisu"
Errr yeah right, sausages and mash then is it?

I admit that my menus probably revolve around much the same things, every month we would eat probably the same dishes at least once (I make everything from scratch too!!):
Spaghetti bolognese/carbonara or something else involving pasta!
lasagnes
Chilli con carne
Roast chicken with veg
Sausages!
Shepherd's pie,
Chicken pieces in sauce, usually something like tomato and onion or mushroom sauce
Quiche of various types
Risotto
home made pizza
crepes
ham and cheese toasties!
pork chops
steak
grilling ham
Stuffed veggies in season
something stewed like a curry or a beef stew

For veg it is usually something like this: potatoes boiled, mashed, pan fried, stirfried veg of whatever I have in the cupboard!, steamed carrots/beans/courgettes, mashed pumpkin, gratin of courgette or cauli or potatoes or leeks, or parsnips, just cooked peas or beans, ratatouille in season.
And of course as we are in France we usually have a starter, which is usually veggie based so could be grated carrots, beetroot salad, cooked cooled leeks in vinaigrette, green salad, grated celeriac in mayonnaise, cucumber in cream sauce, tomato salad, etc and usually there is only one garnish with the meal.

Of course there is always the option of getting some recipe magazines, and making a weekly menu from the ideas they give! Sometimes i do that but after a week or so  it falls by the wayside!

That's a wee bit harsh, if I may make so bold.

We cook most of our meals from scratch (both of us are keen cooks), but there are times when a chap (or indeed a girl) just fancies a commercial pie, or fish'n'chips, or a doughnut.  It's a bit like reading a comic or chick lit.  You might be the most intellectual person in the world, but just sometimes you fancy some junk for a change.

Sorry but that did make me laugh....I love typing errors sometimes.  :P

We menu plan, so we eat what's on the whiteboard. If we don't change it then we eat what is still on there from last week...or the week before. Works for us. :D

Thats a good idea!!

yes was harsh stomping on the pie, but it felt good. It was absolute junk by the way, stuffed full of things we wouldn't put in our mouths.ggrhh.The pastry was like stretchy rubber, it didn't even break when jumped on it just bent!!

On the rare occasions that John  answers he will sometimes give me a grandiose menu..so the next day I do it..sans goose liver pate or veal which we don't eat.  It is usually really funny because he says things when he doesn't know what they are.

I remember he once said crepe suzette when I asked for dessert ideas...now it is a regular on the menu!!

;D ;D ;D ;D
It's the opposite in my place! about junk food. Sometimes I just want a break from cooking so once in a blue moon I will come home with pizza or a supermarket lasagne or something and it is always sniffed and prodded and called "industrial food" haughtily! Oh well, let's just take it as a compliment for our excellent home cooking!
