I have a dalek type bin at the allotment into which I put mostly weeds. it is always very dry so not rotting down much. Apart from water ;D what kind of stuff from your plot provides the "wet" balance?
Household liquid fertilizer! :D
I was going to say piss, grass mowings as well. ;D ;D ;D
I think we both know what we are talking about ;D
I think we need to get together, my compost bins are always far too wet. Grass, fruit and veg peelings, coffee grounds, tea bags they are all wet.
My fruit/veggie bits and grass clippings always seem to do the trick. Also get DH to add his wee (as heard that male pee is better for this type of thing but prob just an old wives tale!)
What have you been putting in? Mine's mainly weeds so there's lots of green matter, and they never get anywhere near drying out. The odd anointing with piss helps speed the process when I run out of space.
I have same problem with daleks, now I only use them for leaf mold for which they work fine.
They seemed to be dry no matter what I added green waste wise.
Coffee grounds? and definitely some peelings
Thanks- I think I'll take some of my veg waste from home down. One reason it's so dry is that I leave the weeds to dry out before putting them in- they never seem to get killed off if I just put them in straight away.
Leave the lids off when it's raining. I am always thrilled when the weeds I chuck in turn magically into lovely compost a year later....but it doesn't work if it is constantly enclosed and dry.
