Title: Alternative to Auto Watering Systems
Post by: Emagggie on April 05, 2011, 19:27:10
We are to have plastic facias and soffits. All very nice except it buggers up my existing watering system which is a Gardena computerised watering system rigged up for baskets and wall pots. The Husband has decreed it will NOT go up again on the new stuff (miserable old s*d) So just in case I lose the battle I'd better have an alternative up my sleeve. I've seen these globes that are filled with water, does anyone know if they do the trick? Anyone got any other ideas apart from the watering can?

is it a matter of him putting it up or him not wanting it put it up.
If it it is the later you could put it up yourself.

Hi, Maggie  ;D
we use 2 litre bottles cut off and have a pointed plastic job on the top of them , they seem to last a while, I know you wouldn't want them in your garden but the globes should work the same, and look a lot prettier  ;D

Ha ha lincsyokel2 ;D. Plainleaf, it's him not wanting to attach the tube holder clips to the new plastic.
Mal, I'm going to get one tomorrow and try it out. ;D

Hi emaggie,  can i just ask if your gardena system runs off water butt or tap?  I was thinking of getting one but we have no taps only water butts on our allotment.  Cheers :D

Furrypants it's in my garden at home so it runs from the outside tap. Would there be enough pressure from a butt do you think?
Haven't got the bulb thingy yet BB as I haven't got any baskets out at present. As soon as I do I'll report in.

I ran a gardena from a butt raised about a foot off the floor level (and that was only done to get a watering can under the tap), served me well for years, but you do need to clean the filter on  a regular basis, at least twice a week..... a "normally" planted 8x6 would take a 200 litre butt in a day if I let it, I normally only put 100-120 litres in it though...

:)Thanks for that emaggie ... and thank you also Chriscross1966.  We have 5 100 litre butts plumbed into each other and will need to re-jib them to riase above 1 foot.  Worth a go though ... cheers again  ;D
