I was feeling a bit fed up yesterday, I'm still not feeling very well, and then my OH and son got up early and went off in the car somewhere; no cup of tea for me for Mothers Day, no cards nuffink. They have forgotten, I grumble. ::)
So I potter about, it gets to lunchtime and still no OH & son then the phone goes....they are in London! They have picked up my daughter who is studying down there and are bringing her home for her Easter break! On their return, I get a nice card from son, with the promise of two days hard allotment labour (best present!), and daughter also arrives (tie for best present as haven't seen her since Christmas) with nice card and a posh scarf. So smiles all around in the end! ;D ;D ;D
Snap, Deb! My daughter turned up from London, unexpectedly, too! Don't think my son will dig, though......
My 12 year old daughter said on saturday 'we can go to the allotment for the whole day on sunday and I won't complain at all'. On sunday she gave me a home drawn card - a beautiful drawing of the allotment (and without and words on the front so I'll be able to frame it like as a picture :)
I think I'm going to invent a daughters day this year:D
I got a text from my youngest, a distinct improvement ;D
Big son rang and sent a card (he's got a wife now ;D )
2 favourite funny dvd's off my lovely daughter, card and a phone call. We're in 'flu isolation from the family at the moment, keep thinking it's gone, go do something and it comes back ::)
Texts from both my boys. Didn't really expect even that!
I just remembered the card my daughter made me for Mother's Day a few years ago, I posted it on here as well I think, made me laugh all over again! ;D ;D ;D My children know me well...... ::)

I went a few years not doing much for mothers day, thought it was overrated and a bit commercial (plus i didn't have any money). Recent ly though i have mad a conscious effort to do something nice for mothers day. I am an only child and if i didn't, no-one else would. Mum is a keen gardener like me so started off buying a nice plant for the garden, no more than that (don't like cut flowers and she doesn't eat chocolates). In more recent years i have extended this to making up a nice spring container to present on mothers day. I tend to choose plants that look good together in a container but are perennial and will go into the garden when finished in the pot, so its a gift that is long lasting hopefully. If i have anything home grown to add to the pot them i will do so if it looks good.
Last year i did something a bit different. The previous autumn i went out and bought a load of nice daffodil bulbs and put them in a bed used for cut flowers in summer (so not used in winter and spring). I chose those daffs that would be out on mothers day (earlier last year). Unfortunately this didn't go quite to plan; thanks to the very cold January of the 09/10 winter they were barely up let alone flowering for mothers day, and flowered in April. perfect for this years mothers day! Ironic eh? Mum was delighted with them when they did flower. Sadly as with most daffs in this garden they have failed to perform as well this year.
I got a rather nice plant from my daughter no idea what it is but it is totally covered with small purple flowers. I think it might be a Campanula Portenschlagiana. Even better it looks as if I can throw it outside. Also a hanging basket for sweet peas and from other daughter a lovely bouquet.
I got gold from son, what is it they say silence is golden.
Since my little man's only six months, it was up to daddy who didn't manage to sort anything out til Sunday morning so I got a reduced bunch of flowers & a bar of chocolate! However, I did get a shiny kettle for the wood burner as my proper present, but since Daddy got the dates mixed up I've had it for about a month already. Hopeless ;D
However, little one was in a really cuddly mood and since he's usually such a bouncer it was about the best present I could have had ;D

Mother's day cuddles are the best presents ever, enjoy them ;D
Son is in Devon on a field expedition, and the girls got her a card. I had to buy the plants as she did not want anything to expensive. So got her a long boats bucket full of seasonal plants.
