Title: New allotment charges
Post by: ACE on April 01, 2011, 07:06:58
From the start of the new financial year, the government have decided that allotment owners will have to pay VAT on the crops they grow which will be estimated on the current market price of the vegetables for sale in Sainsburys. They say that too many people are getting their food at reduced rates compared to some sections of society that cannot grow their own.

These allotment owners have an unfair advantage and are worse than bankers for avoiding taxes. The money will be collected by allotment committee members who will then send the cash to the House of commons catering office, which will utilise this extra money to provide free meals to MP's  who are feeling the pinch now we 'are all in it together'. How can we be part of the BIG society when some of us are weigh less than 16 stone said a spokesman.

Vegetable avoidance tax should be stamped out now. We cannot have one part of society riding the gravy train when the rest are struggling.

VAT Rates
Shop bought veg:  0%,
Home Grown veg: Seeds 0%, Everything else (tools, compost, shed, greenhouse) 20%

We are already paying more VAT, I feel a campain coming on.
