Just wondering if anyone has tried growing sweetcorn in Scotland (Edinburgh area)
and how they got on?
Can anyone recommend a good variety for the higher latitudes?

Hi ARV,
I'm in Perth so similar latitude. I try every year, and have some successes, some failures. I usually get a relatively decent crop every year, but there are always some left on the plant that fail to ripen.
I start them off indoors in roottrainers/toilet rolls in mid-April, then plant out under cloches (plastic bottles) when I am confident of no more frost. Once they begin to take off I remove the bottle and let them get on with it. Once the corn has set (not sure if that is the proper term), I pop another 2l bottle over the corn to try to aid ripening - don't know if this works or not, but it also prevent bird/rodent attack.
I'm sure others have more 'scientific' approach, but this sort of works for me.
Every year I try a different variety - this year T&M Rising sun F1 hybrid - apparently it is 'early to cob'
Good luck - it is definitely worth it if you get them to ripen.

I'm a little further down on Northe East coast - whitley bay. I have successfully grown Incredible F1 for past 2
years. I start them off indoors one seed per 3" pot. Then pot on into bigger pots until last frost, harden off & plant
in block of 12 in their final position which is south-facing in a sheltered spot. I usually get 3 or 4 cobs per plant.
They are very sweet & delicious. I pick & freeze any surplus.
