I have a bag of lovelly small potatoes from the supermarket that I forgot were in my garage. They are now 'chitting' and I was wondering if I could plant them and whether they would crop?
Last year I planted supermarket spuds that had sprouted & I had a great crop, no blight & hardly any slug damage,no wireworm etc :)
Its not something I would make a habit of & I wont plant spuds in that area again for a couple of years just to be on the sfae side. But I reckon its ok every now & again. jane
I've also done it in the past, and they have been fine, it's just a matter of accepting the risk of possible disease but that should be really low
go for it,perhaps plant them up in pots or sacks (in case of disease).what the worst that can happen?
My Bosnian neighbours always plant supermarket spuds and get a great crop
Thanks to all for the swift response. Weather permitting they will be in the ground this weekend :)
Put them in and see.
SWIFT response, very good. ;D
No doubt they'll be off like a ROCKET now the soil is warming up... :)
