Title: Rent.
Post by: Good Gourd 2 on March 26, 2011, 16:27:10
For many years now pensioners  have got their plots for half of the price. Now it seems we are being asked for the full amount, which is  £1.75 per pole.  For this we get water troughs, main roadways maintained, free draining soil, and all in a lovely setting. I do not think that this is unreasonable, any other views out there, please.

Is that the rate everyone pays? £1.75/pole is extremely low.

We pay double that - again, with no concessions - and most of us think we're under-paying. Oh, and being an independent site, we do all the maintenance work ourselves!

Many councils are doing away with concessionary rents same as many businesses are doing away with perks for staff.  Previously, pensioners paid half the going rate on our site but for our last rents we closed the gap so now they pay a little more.  Over time no doubt pensioners will pay the same.  We get an annual grant of £2500 to offset costs on our site and total rents collected were around £2200.  If the grant goes then concessionary payments will probably go before anything else.

Although council owned,we run our own site with minimal interference from the council ans therefore set our own rents.....its been the same for the last 3 years...£20 for all, pensioners included.

This year its £10......I was pleasantly suprised.

We have just had notification that the rents in Barnet for year commencing 1st April 2012 will be £17:00p +£1:55 per pole water for Burrough residence and £34:00p +£1:55p for non residence. This has not come as surprise as this was mentioned to the various societies very early in the year. It will not effect some sites as the council is working to get the sites to manage their own affairs completely. the council is still keeping the 50% concessions for the over 60's for the first 10 poles rent not water.
