Post by: poppie1 on March 20, 2011, 08:14:55
hi all, would anybody happens to know of a good source of heritage potatoes in the bedfordshire area :),have looked on the usual t&m and specialist sites but far too many or far too expensive :-[i have been informed by a very kind member, that epicure and red duke of york are good varieties for a start with.fingers crossed.

It's probably too late for this year, but next year have a look out for a potato day in your area: http://www.potatoday.org/potatodays.htm

I went to our neareset one and got loads of heritage varieties, at 20p a tuber, which is ok if you don't need a huge number.

Check out large garden centres as well. They usually sell a wide variety, but they can be expensive.

I have Skerrie Blues (birthday pressie from a friend).  They are an old Irish potato - have good resistance ot blight but dropped by the Irish as their yield ewan't as good as Lumpar.  We all know what happened next don't we?  If you would like to try them PM me and I'll send a few small ones to start you off.  I think they are a late maincrop = well thats how I treated them/
