Title: Biggun' innit?
Post by: telboy on March 19, 2011, 18:02:55
Found today in my horse manure heap. A hornet I trust, sorry about the poor colours - it was late afternoon.

You're quite right, it's a hornet. Don't worry, they're not aggressive.

hiya robert,
why is it when we see a hornet, that we think omg quick run or swat it?(if you dare that is)
until 5 yrs ago,i had only ever seen one hornet in 35 yrs, moved to bedfordshire and its teeming with them where we live?
i do worry, especially with young children in the house.

Don't worry, they're not aggressive at all. Like most stinging insects, they'll only get you under extreme provocation. I don't know where their reputation comes from.
