Title: ShelterBox appeal to help the Japanese
Post by: Paulines7 on March 13, 2011, 11:42:04
I wanted to donate some money and was wondering when an appeal would be raised for the Japanese people.  A  television news programme then produced a report from ShelterBox in Helston, Cornwall.  I was very impressed by the efficiency of this organisation as they are actively engaged in getting the boxes off to Japan now, so I decided to support them.

The ShelterBox charity, run by volunteers, makes up boxes to send to disaster hit areas.  The boxes include a 10 man tent, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children's activity pack and other vital items.

If anyone else wants to donate, they can do so through the ShelterBox website here: http://www.shelterbox.org/

Shelterbox is my number one preference for charity donations. They are primarily run by volunteers and have become a worldwide organisation in a very few years. They do fantastic work and get their boxes to where they are needed very quickly.

My donation was made yesterday after seeing on TV the utter devastation - those poor people, my heart goes out to them. So many of those who survived have been left with absolutely nothing.

Fingers crossed that the nuclear power stations hold out.

The Red Cross is also taking donations. I didn't realise that the DEC isn't involved because they only get involved in disasters in developing countries.
