Well the family are suffering from a good dose of TRIFLE madness tonight. ;D ;D ;D
I made two large trifles for tea and they all went for them in a big way. :-[
Seems as though when dad does food for the table we get a bad case of bloating as I do up to much. :-X
Oh well, we shall have to walk the dog further than I had thought tonight. Then I might feel better and not so guilty from the large portions of sherry trifle for adults and fruit trifle for the kids. :P :P :P
Decided lack of portion control. ;D ;D
You're a bit like the rhyme we used to quote:-
You're a bit like a pelican
Your beak holds more than your belly can. ;D
valmarg
Question is Valmarg, how does a Pelican belch? :-[
D'you know landimad, I really don't have the first foggiest, and would not be terribly interested to find out.
valmarg
Smells fishy to me lol ;D
Too much of a good thing when it comes to food in our house :D
I got an email today with a load of daft facts.
Apparently Astronauts can not burp.
Seems without gravity the stomach can not separate wind from water.
May be at a certain age. We would all be a lot better off, after a big meal, in outer space.
Forget the sherry triffle ........
In future when you get a load of strawberries on your plot then try this one. (you can use an other fruit if you want to)
A pound of strawberries
A pound of sugar
A pint of vodka. (you can use brandy or any rum if you prefer with rum use half a pound of sugar or it will be too sweet). Gin is iffy Perhaps damsons and Whisky works with a bit of stem ginger if you have no fruits (reduce the sugar to almost nil ). Some like orange with whisky but it is not to my taste. Perhaps some one could experiment using the rind.
mix together in a dark container (that stops the colour going funny) and every day stir well for a week.
Then strain and bottle the liquid.
The fruit you can use in a trifle or eat straight away...hic.
I am basing this on strawberries but other fruits work too.
Now then. the liquid does make a lovely drink and a small amount added to a very dry fizzy wine is good.
However.
If your harvest of the fruit of your choice produces tons for the freezer then the over winter special is
Sponge cake drenched in the liquour and frozen fruit ......you know basic the trifle recipe.
OR and this is fantastic.
Whip up some cream and fold in as much of the liquor as the whipped cream will take and serve in individual SMALL glasses as a desert with or without a bit of stirred in frozen fruits. A fresh piece of fruit even one of those disgusting crunchy tasteless Spanish strawberries over Christmas will make the desert look good simply because it is fresh.
Do not eat and drive.
