Title: Poorly forsythia
Post by: genlistlass on March 07, 2011, 11:31:06
I moved in 4 years ago and the forsythia was lovely. Since then its been flowering less and less. That part of the garden has been getting wetter........

What does it need? Ordinary feeding? Horse manure from my limitless supply?

HI,

I would think it is time for a trim, just wait until after the flowering period, and then cut out all old wood. Thin out the whips, and open the centre up. After this you can add manure or feed with general purpose fertiliser.
Next season it should come back a bit, but wait until the following year and it should be back in its full glory again.
Flowers on second year wood.
