Post by: northener on February 26, 2011, 13:05:49
Hello. Wanting to start my seeds off in the spare bedroom, but light is really poor. Looking at using a grow light, any advice? what type to use? Cheers Neil

I'd suggest emigration, along with your seeds.

Just a thought.... ;)

A heated propagator with a small fluorescent light above should be OK

this is a chap in America that has a home made set up in his spare room using fluorescents lights, just to give you an idea. I have never tried it myself but it looks like it works for him.

Thanks cjb i will read that later, it looks like he uses just standard floros. Robin -  I got rid of my chooks last year, i bought a trailer tent so was going away a fair bit. Asked a mate to feed and water them, the daft bugger left gate open they got out and ate everyones Strawberrys. I got a letter off council telling me if i did 'nt control my livestock i' be booted off.  Lad up Birdwell took all the lot off me. Miss the eggs but don't miss going up every day, it was becoming a bit of a ballache.

Birdwell, ay, just down the road from me. well speaking of grow lights. there is a farm shop at Hemsworth (Farm Top I think on the ring road),it is just down the road from you and it sells everything that isnt grown on a farm but I was there on Saturday and they had grow lights in with ballast at £1-99p !!! they were about 6inch long and came with a transformer. I dont know which Chinese container they fell off the back of but they might be of interest to you. I use the word might very very cautiously. It said on the packaging about being used in aquarium for live plants. You could not replace the bulbs either but at 1.99, hey what can I say.

it has canned and jarred food stuff mainly and these were just hanging on the end of shelf.
