Title: Allotment video
Post by: Robert_Brenchley on February 24, 2011, 20:45:19
I just made my first ever video; I didn't even realise I was recording sound till I played it back. Flowers and bees on the allotment.

was that today?
I won't be opening any of my hives for that sort of inspection for at least another month!!

you've got the same sort of mouseguard as me ( copied from Ron Brown?) but my entrance blocks are other way up to save the bees lifting the debris over a thresh-hold

I adapted that from Ron Brown, you're quite right. I'm quite shameless about opening them in winter; it's an idea I got from Beowulf Cooper, and it's taught me a lot about wintering. I know roughly when a colony should have brood, and how much, and if it has too much I know to requeen it, as it'll eat itself out of house and home before spring. Today's weather here was more like April, and as you can see, they were flying strongly, bringing in loads of hazel pollen.

There should be more videos periodically, especially as I get the plot back from its current disgraceful state.

Samsung Memory Camcorder. So far I'm quite impressed with it. My daughter made a bit of a mess of videoing her sister's birthday party, but I think that was because it was on auto, and there were lights in the picture, so everything else came out dark. I'm looking for a program I can use to lighten it.
