I have had this sent to me, but I don't know how factual it is;
Did you know that you have the right to speak to a UK person when you call a company for a service or whatever?
I've done this when I simply couldn't understand the person talking to me.
But I never realised that this is a proactive way of bringing jobs back to the UK.
Do the following when you phone any customer service operation that is based in a foreign country.
I have done this twice and it works!
Any time you call a company about a problem with a credit card, bank account, computer, product, etc and you are answered by a person in a call centre abroad, eg. in India, try this:
As soon as you realise that the customer service person is not in the UK (you can always ask if you are not sure about the accent), please very politely (very politely - this is not about trashing other cultures) say,
"I'd like to speak to a customer service person in the United Kingdom."
The rep might suggest talking to his/her manager, but, again, politely say,
"Thank you, but I'd like to speak to a customer service person in the UK."
YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY CONNECTED to a rep in the UK.
It only takes a few seconds to have your call re-directed to the UK .
Tonight when I got redirected to a UK rep, I asked again to make sure - and yes, she was in Swansea.
Imagine if tomorrow, every UK citizen requests a UK rep, how that would impact the number of extra UK jobs needed.
Imagine what would happen if every UK citizen insisted on talking to only UK phone reps from this day on.
Remember - the goal is to restore jobs back here at home - not to be abrupt or rude to a foreigner.
Gosh, I didn't know that. I've found lots of other stuff I didn't know too looking for references to this. Lots of stuff on the Bolton British National Party blog (http://boltonbnp.blogspot.com/2011/02/bring-back-uk-call-centres.html), and lots more stuff on this right-wing Christian blog (http://christianityisnotleftwing.blogspot.com/).
That's why I've changed to Plus Net, their call centre is in Sheffield. OK if you don't have a job understanding a Yorkshire accent.
Utter tosh. No-one can force any company to run a UK based call centre. This is obviously racist propoganda . What possible law could there be that this could be based on? Honestly. Some people believe anything.
I don't particularly like Heaven 17 anyway... ;D

Sadly, it's a myth, according to snopes.com
I'm delighted that it's a myth.
redirected to a call centre in Swansea? Are they taking the p1ss? I demand to speak to an unhelpful, stressed out and underpaid English person!
As I said ............I had it passed on to me............ so I passed it on to you lot to get your opinions. ;)
And once again; you guys you haven't failed me!. ;D
As it happens; I too found it difficult to believe! :o
The last time I got through to an obviously Asian country, the guy said, in a strong Indian acccent, my name is Kevin, how can I help you.
I actually went to school in the 60's with an "indian" boy whose name WAS Kevin.... :-\
I have to speak to Dell technical department a fair bit in my job and I think I'm right in assuming that their customer service is based in both Ireland and India? I've always dealt with India and whilst I do sometimes have to ask the person on the other end of the phone to repeat themselves, I've never had anything to complain about. The customer service I've received has always been 100% and always followed up a few days later to see if the resolution is still successful. This is not something I can say about a lot of UK customer service departments, lol. I think it's all swings and roundabouts but I do appreciate that sometimes a foreign accent can be too difficult to understand and that's quite frustrating! :-\ :)
I renewed a policy with Direct Line the other day, and was talking to a lady with a VERY strong Lancastrian (?) accent. Being a mamby pamby southerner I had real problems understanding what she said! Perhaps I should have asked if I could be put through to an offshore call centre?

Me too.
Racists eh? They'll try anything.
A company I worked for outsourced it's PC helpline to Big Blue. We had lots of complaints from the terribly middle class staff at our site that their calls were going to India and it was terrible policy UK jobs etc etc etc. Made my day to tell 'em their calls were actually going to a call centre in Salford. Take from that what you will
