Title: Starting a HUGE dahlia bed
Post by: Jitterbug on February 11, 2011, 22:35:58
Hi Guys

I have bought about 18 different dahlia tubers (I know, I am ashamed of myself but everytime I go into a nursery or shop I see a new one that I simply must have :-[  They are mainly windmill, decorative and semi cactus (and one peony) one.   ;D ;D  I am setting up the second 5 rods of my allotment into  a flower cutting garden.  From what I can see from the material I am reading the paths between must be aprox 3 foot with minimum 90cm between the decorative dahlias.

Are there any tips / pitfalls or hints to help me along the way.  I have been reading Sarah Raven's two gardening books and to me it seems best to have the dahlias in their own bed for ease of digging etc.  with only a few plants (i.e. Tithonia, Verbena Bon) and possibly some cosmos and sunflowers to make a good show.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Jenni
