I have just purchased a small greenhouse, my question is , would it be safe to put all my seeds which i have started in doors , would it be safe to put them in my greenhouse without heat, i did buy bubble wrap just incase.
they flower seeds and a few veg.
If you could let us know what you have sown so we know what is hardy enough for cold greenhouse and what's not ;)
Generally it is still quite cold at times and for anything tender like summer annuals, tomatoes, pepper and cucumbers cold GH is not warm enough yet.
Any perennial flowers are ok, half hardy annuals..maybe.
well my whole conservatory is full with wilkos shelving, i have 4 types of tomatoes, 4 types of peppers which havent arrived yet, sweetpeas, asters, candytuft, petunias etc, geraniums, started early this year due to bad results last year, many seeds were not big enough and ended up with big gaps in my garden, i love to see a full garden. can you also help me with green manure, bought some today, mustard white andphacelia tanacetifolia, can i put this in beds over the allotment in with fruit and veg or do i have to grow it on its own.
Uhh..somebody is been busy ;D
Toms, peppers and all your flowers will require some heat yet...so no. for the cold greenhouse. Sweetpeas are ok without heat and those you are able to plant out soon too.
The idea with green manure is that you sow it on ground on its own..let it grow few inches tall and then you dig it in and let it 'rot' for few weeks. By then your soil should be ready for the next crop. I often spread bit blood, fish and bone meal prior greenmanure sowing..the manure will take the nutrients and re-release once it dug in..but it is alredy sort of pre-digested and I found particularly good with carrots..or other roots ;)
Phacelia has beautiful flowers that bees love..if you have spare spot in somewhere..sow some and let it grow and flower ;) It don't have be your 'best' soil..just batch of ground that would be bit waste other wise..under apple tree?
Thankyou, perhaps i ought to buy a heater for the greenhouse, its only a small one, my partner was excited when i said he could have the conservatory back, so i suppose i will have to spend some more money ah, that will please him ;D i do have a apple, cherry plum and pear tree so i will take your advise and plant under them, i will plant the mustard beside my shed i think.
