Title: Grape vine mistake?
Post by: swampig on January 13, 2005, 08:19:52
I have just started on a new plot and have inherited a grape vine :) I read a little about these on the Internet and pruned it as advised. The article also advised spraying with Jayes to kill off ant parasites/bugs overwintering. I did this whilst spraying the inside of the G/H with Jayes. afterwhich I noticed on the Jayes tin it said to cover up grape vines!!! :'(
Have I committed a NO NO!! :-[

There's a vine growing expert on the yahoo organic list http://groups.yahoo.com/group/organic-l. I'll cross post the query.

Vines are very domant at this time of year so you might be ok

For me spraying/cleaning a greenhouse  with Jeyes is a no no anyway-it kills off the good guys.

If you have nothing else in the greenhouse then a good way to `clean up` a vine is to leave the door and windows open on a very cold night. It will not harm a vine to get a touch of frost and it does kill off some beasties-spiders seem to be able to find shelter-they are `good guys`
