Title: Help needed with tomato ID from swap parcel
Post by: Jeannine on February 01, 2011, 20:05:36
Hi, in the last swap parcel I found a few toms which I couldn't quite read the label as some of the ink had rubbed off , I managed most but am stuck on a couple.

One I think is Wladedi's but am not sure and am unfamiliar with this one.

The other is harder..GHianH   or OHiankl..

The other fascinating one is KUMATO,I think it is this one as most of it is very  clear but as it is a Syngenta protected tomato and seeds are not available except under license could the person who sent this one clue me in,,home saved from a shop bought maybe?? I am really curious about this one.The only other possible spelling would be Kumata as it is the last  letter which is slightly vaguebut am fairly confident it is an 0

Thank you all again for the super seeds, It will take me forever to update I think and oh boy choices for this year.I was thrilled to find several I had run out of.

I think the first one is Wladeck's, a HSL variety. A red cordon variety originally brought over from Poland. Large beefsteak (but shape can vary can vary). Flavour is reported to be 'unsurpassed'.

Is the second one possibly Chianti - Chianti Rose?

Not from me, but several people have saved Kumato seeds from shop bought ones. I think they were sold in US shops as Rosso Bruno, I'm not sure if they were/are available in Canada.

Thanks Jayb..first one sounds great, but it is definately written as Wladedi's. I found a mention on Tomatovilee, someone else was asking for help with it too and it was spelled the same, second one definately not Chianti Rose, and the Kumato will be a fine experiment.
Have you ever grown them. I would expect them to be hybrid if commercial??

Sorry I wasn't any help.

I've a few seeds to try out this year, yes a Hybrid by my understanding. There seems quite a bit of differing opinion as to how good they are.
