Hi
This Months issue of Kitchen Garden (February) has a an informative article on keeping a few hens in your Garden/Allotment, the magazine is also full of advice on growing veg. etc

Make sure you run is fox proof and make sure you are able to visit your hens at least daily. I have three hens in my garden and their water drinker is often very low after only one day. You would also need to collect eggs daily, eggs left lying around can lead to hens developing a bad habit of egg pecking/eating. If you have a vandal problem on your site then you would need to consider carefully, there are some cruel people out there who would harm your hens for no apparent reason.
