Hi all only my second year on patch and need a little advice on something - i,ve spread rotted muck on my patch in nov ready for this season - now as most brassicas, caulis, brussels etc state they are to be planted in firm ground - so...... i presume i should not roravate - although i wanted to work the muck in - or should i and then roll or firm down somehow?

If your soil is clay based I'd turn it in and just let it settle. That's waht we do. It shouldn't need firming unless it is a light /loose sandy type. Compacting it down (CLAY) just makes it harder for the roots to get out and anchor the plant itself ... :-X
Hi matey thanks for your reply and clearly explained too - wellmine is certainly not to crumbly but then not heavy clay so i,ll take you advice and turn it and let it settle.
