Last 2 sunshine squash. Checked today and spotted small area of mould. When opened up there was hardly any damage at all. They are now chopped up and away in the freezer to use in stews and curries. So glad that I caught them in time cos they are lovely squash.
I lost 2 uchi kuri over Christmas, still got a potimarron, 3 uchi kuri , 2 butternut and a hooligan, can't eat them quickly enough ;D
Now I know that they will freeze ok we don't have to rush to eat them. I usually cook half and put the other half in the freezer
How would you describe the taste of the sunshine squash, compared to other squashes?
It has a sweet flavour and a bit less oily than butternut. We only grew it last year from a cheap packet of seeds and its one of our favourites. The plant doesn't wander too much either and sets fruit very early.Just watch the damp underneath them cos we lost one from each plant last year due to it.
Thanks for the information. I always put a slate or brick under squash to prevent rot.
