I have a 23 year old Magimix food processor - wedding present. The motor is still going strong but the blades are getting a little blunt after all this time and the bowl has hairline cracks appearing which are multiplying at every wash. Apparently I can buy a new bowl but it will cost £40; the blades are obsolete. The question is do I fork out 40 quid on a new bowl for a 23 year old processor or do I limp on until the bowl breaks or the motor goes and then try and find the dosh for a replacement?
Stick with it & start saving for a new one.
i have two Cuisinart food processors older than yours one is the RC1 one of the first models made. I also had bowl problems so bought new one it was for my 7 Pro,,, all was fine then I found my base had hair line crack in it. So what the heck I had had good service from both of these, go rash and buy a new one,,,,, Same make, tried the 11 cup, what a lot of crap, the motor would cut out because it didn't have the power to do what the old ones with ease, so it went back to the shop...
then tried the 14 cup, this has gotta be good.... same thing the motor cut out for yea amount of minutes to cool off or some thing.. well thats all you want when you are in the middle of some thing.
Never never had cut outs with the old machine, so it went back./
I am still using both my old ones the crack is no worse.
So I say
STICK WITH THE OLD ONE INVEST IN A NEW BOWL, WITH THE SPEED YOUR MACHINE WORKS i EXPECT YOUR BLADES WILL KEEP DOING OK FOR SOME TIME YET..........qAHTAN
Stick with your old one for as long as poss. Can you not sharpen your blades yourself?

By wash, do you mean dishwasher wash. I only ask since I have a very old Magimix, aka Robot Chef, which is not dishwasher-proof. If so, the sooner you stop washing it in the dishwasher the better.

if you have a whetstone for sharpening carving knives why not give it a try on your processor blades as well.
I sharpened a box cutter recently, first time for one of those, and it was much easier than changing the blade.
Not an expert, but unless you can sharpen the blades I would start looking for another one. You might find a new-ish one on Ebay or local free ads paper for £40-ish. I found a really expensive juicer for £30 in Trade-it, that had never been used!
Thanks peeps.
I don't have a whetstone and wouldn't know where to start in terms of sharpening and the bowl is handwashed. Like me, it's beginning to show its age :( Saving up for a new bowl is certainly going to be cheaper than a whole new machine. I do use it regularly so I need it to work!
what have you been using your blades for that they want sharpening, as I said my processor are much older than yours and still do a good job...
qahtan
Making soups, pastry, mayonnaise, chopping up chocolate, nuts, herbs, etc, etc. Nothing untoward. :(
strange!!!!
mine gets used for meats as well as the regular stuff.
I bet if you touched the blade while washing it you would find it sharp,,
no,no, don't try it.... ;) ;) qahtan
What make is it sometimes look up the manufacter on the net send them a email with what you are looking for model number and make they are very helpfull done it a few times for O/H Rugbypost
We have an old Magimix (aka Robotchef), and wouldn't be without it. It is robust and works very well. Our only problem is that the blades could probably do with a sharpening, but how?
valmaeg
valmarg...you could try sharpening with one of those small 'lollipop-type' sharpening stones that attach on drill..put drop of cooking oil on blade and 'run' the stone over the edge of the blade few times keeping it almost flat position against blade...
...or with fine metal file..
Snap, Valmarg! I am worried about trying a do-it-yourself sharpening on the blades though because if I mess it up (quite likely!), I know I can't buy a replacement. :(
Qahtan, still got all my fingers but blades definitely not as sharp as they once were.
;) ;D
This link might help with replacement blades:

I think Jill said in her first post that the blades are obsolete ;D.
Thanks, jennym but Magimix have already confirmed they no longer do the blades for mine - it's a 2800S. If anyone finds one, do let me know ;D ;D
Google "sharpening food processor blades" their are afew "How to"articles on the subject. Maybe a handy neighbour or friend can do this for you, should only take 5/10 minutes. Is there a knife sharpening service in your area?
Problem solved ;D Bought an identical model from a certain auction website for the price of a new bowl. Now I have spare parts for everything, including an uncracked bowl and a lovely sharp blade that has been used far less than mine! Just had to give it a meticulous clean but well worth it. :) :) :)
Where there's a will there's a way ;). Well done.
