Not too bad across here in Gateshead - some glass out in my greenhouse been perched on a ladder fixing it today. Lots of fences and trees down nearby but the allotments seem to have gotten away with it really. :D

hi tim,
sorry i was refering to plug plants for flowers,i was reading an article on them, and was just wondering if they are a good thing to maybe make some hanging baskets,in stead of waiting for seeds to grow, just a thought, thank you, charlie :D :D

I think this part of Essex has been very lucky.  Apart from all the dead and brittle branches blown out of the trees in the garden and down on the common, no noticeable damage....touch wood....spit and whistle....fingers crossed.....

Charlie, if you have the patience a lot of bedding plants are easy to grow from seed. I grew petunias from seed last year, the seeds are teeny weeny, but they were fairly low maintenance and easy to grow. I sowed a bunch in a small pot and then pricked out the seedlings, but this year, if I grow them again, I'll do modules, with a couple of seeds to a module and thin out.

I'm sure pansies are easy to grow from seed too - going to give it a try this year.

Sorry to hear about your wind damage, particularly the greenhouse

Seem to have lost my best sprouting brocolli plant. Am very disappointed. OUr site is very windswept - (NW of London - on exposed slope). I'm thinking of making some windbreaks from 4x2 stakes with hessian stapled on and hammering them into the windy side of some of the beds.

Sarah.

I was away in Hampshire for the weekend and checked this morning, lost the cover on one of my walk in plastic greenhouses. The frame is fine and nothing inside it at present so no damage done to plants.

Just have to see if I can find a supplier for the covers to repalce it.....

very lucky not to have damage as village is on top of hill. things have been blown about, i left some of the pots on their side since they were not going any further. thought if i put them upright they might break the next time the wind caught them! sorry for those who have suffered damage though, very demoralising.

spotted nieghbour's new fence moving alarmingly, the fence post had worked loose, he had to wedge it in.

the usual from the birch tree, numerous twigs etc. this always happens, wonder it has any left on it by now!
am thankful neighbours repaired their roof on outbuilding. the slate would keep coming off and decapitating plants. at least it was never the cats or me!

plugs-don't 'do' much bedding, but mum has had bizzie lizzies out of offers in the paper for 2 years running, came from t+m. arrived in tiny plugs but we didn't lose any, and they grew and flowered really well.

i see lots of offers in mailshots, but never know whether to trust the pictures? anyone any thoughts..............??

I bought some plug plants last year.. waste of money to be honest.  They were busy lizzies and  arrived half rotten from a certain T&M. Going to buy them as large trays this year from B&Q £3.60 for 35 plants, and if you time it right then you can get them for half price... cant go wrong at that price.  You couldnt even buy the seeds for that price. ::)

Unfortunately I spoke too soon !! Been down to the allotment this morning, glass all over the place except in the greenhouses where it's supposed to be - fences lying across the paths.
About to take a half day from work to start the tidy up >:(
