There's 'junk mail' everywhere!
Some stupid spambots have got in again, there are no moderators on at the moment, nor Dan..I've reported some but there are too many and my hands are aching ;D
*sigh* it's time to hit the ignore button again...
it's time to log off. I like coming on this site and just can't ignore the ignoramus's that spam. Realy wish I could throttle one of those idiots.
Back later, just feel sorry for the moderators that have to clear the mess up
Although it is easy to' ignore' these pointless posters, they will still come up under unread new posts. Is there any facility (or is it worth developing one !) for members to be able to only read posts from unignored members? ???
Or we go over to a process of "all new accounts must be approved by a mod".
Very tedious for the mods and against the spirit of the forum but this spam would put of new posters too.
This is exactly what has been happening on Allotments UK recently. The spammers come in and take over the whole page....not good >:(
Ive clicked the ignore button but can still see em,is that right?
What good to they think they will achieve with posts that just annoy people
All email Dan ,he is the only one that can sort it...Den
perhaps if we had a whip-round and promised to buy something, then he'd go away ??? No need to answer that, i think
Have PM'd Dan
The site needs more moderators if only to delete the spam when its gets through!
I reported about 6 posts, then gave up when I realised how many there actually were ::) >:(
I think you only need to report one post as spam. Once Dan comes on he can see well enough that there are loads. Anyway I think so! Dan?
Oh my lord, LOL!!
They are just appearing as fast as I am deleting them, sorry!
Same as yesterday, I don't think I'll be able to keep on top of them as I do have to go out soon - firstly to the jewellers as I've lost a diamond in my engagement ring :'( Wouldn't mind but I only had it repaired at the beginning of December!!
This really needs Dan to ban and delete again as I think, like yesterday, the spambots are just set to post randomly.
Yesterday SL asked for people to mail Dan as she thought many emails were more likely to attract his attention.
SamLouise there's no need to be sorry as it's not your fault. This is down to Dan to sort out and not leave you to do this thankless task.
Yes one of the joys of being a mod,I think not. :)
Especially as Dan gives them no support whatsoever!
I've never had a response from Dan to any PM that I've sent him, and I know that others have had the same problem. It makes me wonder just how much he cares about this forum and the members apart from the money he makes from it.
Oh no, no, noooo. Please let's not snipe at each other because of these awful spammers :(
I'm sure Dan cares for this site very much (and I'm pretty sure he makes no money from it, lol) but I do know some members become a little deflated from lack of PM response. I think the reason he picked a couple of extra mods was probably due to not being able to spend as much time on the board and that's fine but with such limited authority, it's very hard to do anything other than move posts from the board and into moderation - one at a time which I find extremely frustrating, not to mention time consuming.
But please, let's not fall out :) x
Just to say thanks Sam! Must be a tedious thing to have to do..
I have no desire to be a mod but would gladly help out if I could..
yep, thanks to Sam for the sterling effort it must take to sort out this spam, I see there's a new one just appeared, uh-oh
Why oh why wont Dan give you the means to delete the posts in one go. If he is not there to do it then at least you will be there.
I would just like to add that Dan doesn't make a penny out of me since I learned to use photobucket
Hi
I have disabled registrations for the time being to stop new spamers registering.
Sadly it appears that the drop in email spam has been more than replaced with forum spam!
Dan
I'm a Mod on another gardening Forum - and just between mid dec and this week we had 1000 new registrations that were spammers; as against 30 odd genuine newbies.
It's a thankless task, but without the ability to ban a member, it's just p1ssing in the wind unfortunately.
They did say that the methods were set to change, so approving new memberships has got to be the way to go eventually.
Three cheers for Dan and Sam.
Well done both... thanks very much... :)
Yes Thank you!!!
Does it make you feel grubby having cleaned up all that rubbish! ;)
Well done guys ;D
Thank you both.
It's sod's law but I was telling a garden-mad friend all about A4A yesterday and he asked me to email the link to him. I did that last night. I couldn't believe my eyes at what I saw this morning and quickly sent him another email saying 'Please don't look - it's horrible!'
Thank goodness it's back to normal!
Thanks, Sam and Dan- and don't let the beggars get you down !!
I have missed what has been going on. But a big big thanks to Dan and Sam. Perhaps you needs some more mods.
Maybe some kind of question about who you are? I joined a forum about ancestor and had to pass a test to be allowed in. It was not difficult but much to tedious for someone just interested in spamming.
I really enjoy the site.
Back in the land of the sane. Thanks.
