Title: For us small scale tomato sellers
Post by: cleo on January 07, 2011, 13:53:36
I know some here sell tomatoes(as well as other stuff) either for pin money or to fund something.

Well a suggestion on the BBC site about something not quite the same got me thinking.

As well as individual plants what about a `six pack`?-six different varieties in a decent sized tray/module.

In over 20 years of selling that had never crossed my mind.

Without trying it I`m not sure if it saves time/increases our profit but it`s got to be attractive to many who just want a few types and could be daunted by so many single types to choose from.

That sounds like a good idea   :)

I tried it at one of our plant sales but it wasn't taken up... we were probably too late for serious / greenhouse growers who were stocked up/planted out by then and casual buyers didn't want six ...  :-\

A possible variation...when I give surplus plants to friends, they usually like a standard variety, a cherry and a plum...could you sell in threes like that? If I were buying plants I'd certainly go for your 6-pack notion rather than all the same.
