This is the map of the complex. The small green blob in the upper part of the center is the club house, the arrow points to our lottie. A long way to the toilets, which are at the club house, I usually go on the bicycle.

Our lottie is the red outlined area. If you look closely, you can see that each lot is numbered and divided into three parts with dotted lines, this indicates the rotation of potato planting which is stricktly enforced.

The club house, named 'De Konkelboet' which means chat shed but in the West Frisian dialect.

This picture was taken today during our new year's reception. We were pleased that the mayor of Hoorn (almost 70.000 inhabitants) responded to our invitation to be present (not on this picture).
There are some nice old gardening tools on the wall in the back but I have no idea what they are.
Good one Ina! Great pics. Would love a club house on our site. How many plots are there in all??
wow! how inspiring, and how well organised. i suppose you have no vacant plots, with such a good organisation?
looks so well maintained too, great clubhouse.
interesting about the potato rotation.
Let me see, I just received the annual 'green boek' from the organisation:
There are a total of 201 allotments of which 34 are double allotments and there are 13 persons on the waiting list.
Twice a year, every allotmenteer has to do work turn on a saturday morning. The work involves the communal ground, paths, canal edges, bridges, club house etc. as well as cleaning and tilling any vacated lots before they are rented out. Then there are several retired people who spend a lot of time on a voluntary basis, keeping the communal area's tidy and run the club house when it's open for drinks and talk.
Here are a couple of pictures of our allotment.

This is the flower part of the lottie, the hollyhocks on the left are on the corner of the communal path and where our allotment ends.

This is the veggie part and it goes to the other end of the allotment.
Wow Ina, what a well organised allotment complex. My plot is on it's own in amongst several other privately owned, but sadly neglected, allotments. It must be great to be part of such a communal organisation!!
Particularly like the bit about the clubhouse being open for drinks! :D
What a great complex, Ina - so civilised!! We have a biggish hut on site but it's not a clubhouse and doesn't have facilities - wish it was but doubt if people would agree on running it tho we only have 26 plots on site.
Your own plot looks great too.
Having toilets en site appeals to me!! Many a time I have had to leave early cos the need is there and my plot is so exposed!!!! :D :D ( I know I know, the compost heap would appreciate it!)
It looks splendid Ina!
Thanks for your reactions.
I do feel very lucky with this place and I know it's nice, that's why I'm showing it off. Kind of proud of it while none of it was my doing except our lottie of course.
Old tools Ina? Having used, and still using, both, (unless my eyes decieve me) I presumably fall into the same age group? The tool on the left is for sowing seeds (judging by the hopper) while the one on the right is a wheel hoe.
d**n it, John - was just scrolling down to show off my knowledge!!
Great pictures, Ina. = Tim
Yes - I spotted the wheeled hoe too; I can think of a much better use for it :-) :-).
Still looking for one around here in Yorkshire - they're great tools to use. Ah well :-(.
Lovely place, Ina!
All best, Gavin
PS Isn't it a bit like folks hanging musical instruments on pub walls? Hate it when I see that :-)
Are you people sure it's a hoe? I mean a hoe is a blade that is flat to chop things off right under the surface of the soil?
Is it not something to turn soil over or make ruts?
If it is a hoe, how does it work?
We already planned to take a close look next time we visit the club house. Maybe even take a close up picture.
The ones I used to use had two hoe blades - but these could be changed for other tool heads, like mini-ploughs, and a mini-harrow/cultivator, if I remember right.
All best - Gavin
hi Ina...................had my father look at the pictures and he thinks the old tool on the right is what he knows as a hand plough.................
any more ideas from anyone???
I am so impressed with your Pics Ina and how very well organised your Allotment Society is. You must feel like you are part of something special. It looks like Lottie Heaven to me. Our Allotment Site is primitive in comparison. There is no parking space, no toilets, and although we have a Shop, it really is just a prefabricated building with no heating or lighting. What a good idea that every one takes their turn in maintaining the Site too. I have always loved the flower part of your plot it is so pretty. Thank you for sharing this with us it is very interesting to see.  :) busy_lizzie
Any better?

Won't that make it rust?
;D
Sorry. Couldn't resist. What a fabulous site you have. Excellent photos!
HAHAHAHAh Speedy, very funny!
Hehehehe, of course it should have been 'I take the bicycle'Â but I'm not going to edit it now. Too funny.
