any seeds I should be sowing? forecast light snow for Saturday so think digging is gonna be hard tho still have parsnips, brussels to harvest
Winter lettuce leaves. Not much else before the end of the month. Getting your seed supplies. Otherwise - get DIY jobs around your plot completed before silly season begins.
Onion maincrop seeds indoors, broadbeans in big modules somewhere that is protected from the worst of the elements...

If you have a propagator, or somewhere warm, then its the right time to sow chillis.
Get hold of some sweet potatoes, lightly jam them into a mug 3/4 full of water (just the lower tip of the tuber in the water) and put them somewhere warm. When they start sprouting bring them into the light. Twist off each sprout ('slip') when they are about 3 ins long and pot them up. Plant out in a greenhouse/polytunnel or somewhere really sheltered when the weather warms up.

this time of year it's time to put your feet up !! plenty of work lies ahead in the coming months :)
It depends. If you don't have too much to do before the growing season, or you can't get onto the plot for a good reason, leave it. I can only do so much per day, so I need to be at it all the year round, or I never catch up.

Wet - it's SOLID all the way down has been for over 6 weeks!

I've just covered one of my rhubarb plants in straw and an upside down bin to force it.
Cut back autumn rasps/gooseberries etc.
I've spent about two hours on my plot in a month & a half.
I have all my seeds in stock just waiting for wilkies to get Shallots and seed spuds in their shops, All pots. modules and rootrainers cleaned this month. Must do repairs to shed the roofing felt got ripped of in a storm also replace guttering and get more barrels. Prune fruit bushes, weed and spread compost around them. Open up trench and begin to fill up with kitchen waste and shredded paper. Still collecting leaves ready for next years leafmould. Collect all the tools and coat wood handles with a smear of linseed oil to preserve them, sharpen all cutting tools (spades hoes secateurs etc). January for me is not a idle month there`s plenty to do. Next month there`s sieving compost preparing onion and shallot beds.
