Title: foxes in my compost heap
Post by: brownowl23 on January 05, 2011, 14:35:49
Im after a bit of advice really.

Ive been digging down the lottie today, and was going to start spreading the contents of my well rotted compost heap on to my freshly dug beds, however ive just found that ive got a foxes lair in it.
Now OK I appreciate its cold out and they need somewhere to sleep, but as I really hate the critters and the fact that they are leaving their poo all over my plot, i'd really rather they would jog on and find another comfy hole.

So what advice would people give in this situation. I have phoned the council allotment dept who will send me a leaflet which sounds more aimed at how to discourage foxes from round your house rather than what happens when youve got one in your compost heap. Will see if that is any use when royal mail eventually deliver it as post here is abysmal

Not much help here, but you could get a Polar bear as they get rid of Foxes or at least that's what the advert says  ;)

HI All thanks for your replies.

I did in a moment of madness bang on the wooden comppost heap structure to see if anything came out. I think i'd have needed a new pair of knickers if anything had!!

I went back through some of the old threads on here and suggestions seem to be human male urine apparently, jeyes fluid was also another suggestion.

I now know where my 3 year  twin boys in car Pee pee bottle will be emptied from now on. Dh has also volunteeered to fill up bottles for me.

I rarely see others on my allotment, but as there is no toilet facilities I guess they must go somewhere or wait till they get home.

Hopefully I can get these pesky critters to find a better home.
