I turn my stored squash once in a while and put my thumb in a green hubbard today - ugh! Luckily, it had only just started to rot so was able to save most of it. Only yesterday I used up the second half of a Crown Prince, which had been taking up room in the fridge for a couple of weeks, for soup, so have had to freeze the Green Hubbard for future use. Still have one more large Green Hubbard, two Butternuts and two Black Futsu which are storing well so far.

A timely reminder
Been choping up, cooking and freezing blocks of squash for weeks, and drying the seeds for munchies.
Just one big orange one and for maariona de chioga left, hope they are ok esp. The big ones were grown to give to people but got too many this year. I love seeing all the different varieties people recomend on here and aim to grow for flavour next year.
Also need to leave a longer stalk on, that is supposed to help stop rot.

We converted 20lbs+ at the weekend.... a large Banana Pink that was starting to go and an Etampes... :)
lost a butternut and a uchi kuri over Christmas, too sick to check them ;D

Make sure that you do not have them stored in the same room as stored fruit such as apples or bananas, as the ethylene given off by the fruit, starts squashes rotting.
Oh thanks - hadnt realised it was apples as well - had wondered why my squashes were not keeping as well this year!
