On Tuesday morning the Council in their wisdom, sent a chap along out road with a large machine used for digging holes. He proceeded to dig out deep channels in the verge all along the road at about 5 metre intervals. The reason for this, we presume, is to allow the water on the road to drain off into the fields. After years of soil accretion the verges are higher than the road. Great idea, except that the channels are dug at right angles to the road so any water running down the road would have to turn at right angles to enter. AND the first farm vehicle to use the road leaves a ridge of mud across the entrance to the channel so only water deeper than a couple of centimetres can get in anyway.
But what has this to do with Internet addiction, you may be asking?
Well buried under the verge is the telephone cable, put wire and sharp digging implement in close proximity and guess which wins? So no telephone connection. So no Internet. Bt when informed said Friday at the earliest. Well they did it today, good on them. But boy did we miss the Internet. You don't realise just how much we have come to rely on it.
New Year Resolution. Get a life off line!!!!!!!!!!
Ah, those were the days with two cocoa tins and a length of string. It never let you down.
That's so true, Eric. I seem always to be "looking things up" - just today for example (1) Received a Galileo Thermometer - how does that work - checked it out (2) Curcumin to prevent Alzheimers - what's that all about so checked that (3) What's the latest on the local football club's proposed takeover - checked that out. Quicker than looking things up in dictionaries or trawling thru teletext.
All of course done to the accompanieiment of online radio! Luv it.... the internet and the lottie jsut make my life so much better.
To help you with the addicition, there is a lovely little site that you have probably all seen, www.africam.com, where there are webcams taking snaps in various places in Africa and they have one in the sea in the bahamas. Today I watched a herd of hephalumps visit the watering hole, a herd of possibly wilderbeast in the distance and lots of wonderful fish.
