I have seen a 5 mp web cam on amazon for £8.99. I want use it for Skype calls with family abroad. Is 5mp's sufficient? do I need to spend more on a better quality cam?
I have an old 3.2 mp Sony camera (standard digital camera) can this be used as a web cam?
duke
Duke - a 5MP web cam will be more than fine for Skype though I'd be more concerned with the quality of it than the pixel count.
if it is this http://www.amazon.co.uk/TeckNet-Webcam-Camera-MegaPixel-microphone/dp/B000Q3VECE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293962292&sr=8-1
then have a look at the details...
Basically it is only a 1.3 MP cam (which is standard) - the 5 MP resolution is in fact done in software not hardware... :(
SOme Sony cameras can be used as a web cam I think but you'd be better off with a proper web cam that you can sit on your monitor..
My recommendation is to get a cheap logitech...
Agree about Logitech. I just bought one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002CNKVES/ref=oss_product and it's superb if you can run to it. Very decent image quality on Skype and a good clear microphone. You can set the camera to follow your face during calls, which is cool.
The cheaper Logitechs are good, too.
Thanks for the link Melbourne. Yes Barridalenick that's the one I was looking at.
I will go back to the drawing board and look at more Logitech cams. £35 is more than I wanted to spend but that does seem a good one.
Duke :)
