I've been letting my chickens out into the allotment for the last few weeks, as their run gets into a bit of a state this time of year. They love to forage and scratch about.
When I went to put them back in at roughly 3.45 today I did the usual head count to make sure that my 9 hens and 2 cockerels were all present and correct. Then I did it again, and again. Then once more.
I had 12. ??? :o
I still have 12, and the extra one is asleep on the floor of the coop while all the others are perching. It looks like a point of lay Warren or Rhode Island red cross. I guess I'll have to go down and ask around in the morning.
Manna from heaven? ;D
:-\ Interesting :) Maybe it's re-homed it'self!
You've been adopted ;) ;D.
I have known of people finding stray hens and just chucking them in with others instead of left running around.
Mystery solved, it belongs to a guy whose allotment backs onto mine, he hadn't noticed until I asked him.... :)
Reading your post set my little brain off into dreaming that my 3 light sussex were 5 when we went this morning!! needless to say it was just a dream and there were still 3!

Try having a dream where the chickens are 6ft tall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a dream that someone had stolen my chicken coop and all the chickens were roaming around free in the garden trying to escape! ???
The last two posts sound more like nightmares! :D
A six-foot hen would be like having a six-foot carnivorous dinosaur around. Nightmare is the word!
