I bought an arc from little morton farm earlier in the year, they  are definately worth a go.  They have all sorts of stuff including hybrid chickens.

Hi I sent you a PM Suzie Q.
I spoke to sunlovers and she also got her birds from Little morton farm,  they are a lot smaller than ours but very prolific.
Let us know where you go and how you get on, are you a new chicken keeper.

You are only about an hour from Melton Mowbray and every Tuesday they have Poultry sales at the cattle market I see  POL chickens there most weeks when I get down, :)

I would not recommend a new keeper going to a sale. there is so much to look out for and most do not know, also there is very little comeback if you run into problems. Another factor is it is sooo easy to get carried away and buy too many or unsuitable birds.
I would recommend Practical Poultry to any potential keeper as you learn from that what every body else did wrong.
I have bought chickens from a source I thought would be reputable and spent a heart breaking Christmas a few years ago not knowing that they had a disease which was fatal, trying desperately to look after them.

Hope no offence taken Mr Smith but if Suzie Q were experienced keeper she probably would not be posting the question on here, I know you too are trying to help her.

Hi Suzie,

Friends and I have had chickens from Storrs Farm near Thurgoland. They have a good website with the breeds they have in stock. They also give advice as needed before and after sale.

I plan on getting more chickens in the New Year and will definately be going to Storres.

Good luck with your girls

PS This is my first ever post anywhere!!!   ;D

In the Summer a neighbours visitor was admiring our banties but couldn't understand why we went to a breeder. He got his so much cheaper at a market. I asked after them a couple of months later & he had mostly cockerals. Oh dear.

Thanks for all your advice everyone

I am not a new chicken keeper as it happens, had all sorts of birds over the years from breeders and ex bats.  It's just that it is a new area for me - the birds are for my mother who has just moved to Bolsover (from west sussex) so not really sure where to go.

I will be going up this weekend to purchase the chicks so will give feedback on what I get.

Everyone has been very frank - special thanks to Pumpkinlover - PM most useful.

Thanks
Suzie Q
