Title: Parcels-Grrr
Post by: macmac on December 16, 2010, 13:46:32
Yesterday pm we came in from the cold made a cuppa, lights on ,tv on.
30mins later I got up to close curtains and saw a  card in the letterbox.
"sorry we couldn't deliver your parcel" I had visions of a postman on tiptoes creeping away .He didn't knock even though with all the lights we were clearly at home.
Anyway off to the sorting office this morning to join a queue of some 20 people.
30 mins later "I'm sorry I can't find your parcel at the moment I'll take your details and ring you "
I'm trying really hard to be charitable,I know the posties have a tough job but I think perhaps this may be the norm as there were several notices in the sorting office pointing out that anyone abusing their staff....etc  >:(
and we've just had a delivery, now I wonder is the parcel I just got the one they couldn't find ?Or is it the other one I'm expecting ? ???

 >:( you are not the only one with sneeky postman..and we've got lazy one too..I've seen him numerous times leaning on walls while playing with his mobile..no rush in the world, that one don't ::)
Royal mail bloke 'runs' back into his van so I don't have even chance to rush out and catch him to get any parcels. Who does he think I am..Mrs Bucket? ::)

I am waiting in for a couple of packages today. I tried track and trace with the numbers but it just tells you it's in the system like it has for the last 3 days. I bet they come tomorrow when I am busy. Another one who will have to wait in the parcel depot for half an hour while one poor soul has the job of dealing with a queue a mile long.

The post office is getting a joke, I had to post a parcel last saturday queues twice around the postoffice and only 2 of the 6 booths being used. I asked to see the manager to tell him I have to pay for parking and waiting in his queue has cost me 50p so could he knock a bit off the price of my postage. He refused to come out of his office.

I'm still waiting for a parcel that was meant to be delivered on the 7th from Tesco.  Now, we did have a bit of snow here, the roads were bad for a few days, but how can things fall ten days behind when the roads were really only impassable for a day or two?  I just don't understand it.  And like you, ACE, when I try to track it there's no info.  Very annoying.  Will it come in time for Santa or won't it??  Hmmm.   ??? ::)

Oh I'm trying not to laugh.
I had a quick chat with a neighbour who's a postie to ask if this mornings delivery was the "lost" parcel he was sure it wasn't and offered to collect it.
Why I'm laughing is because the parcel was a small rubber sports watch from Amazon which would fit in a the palm of your hand ,packed in box
12"x9"x4"deep ???
Packed appropriately it would have pushed through the letterbox.
I'm lost for words ::)

Trust me when I say the post office delivery depots need a blinkin' good kick up the bottom!!
They don't help themselves. I too was left with a card saying couldn't deliver parcel too big,(even though I was in, no way did he ring the bell!!) so off I go to the depot the following morning, timed it so the postie hadn't left for his round. Whilst picking up the parcel I thought I'd help by asking if I could take the rest of my parcels/mail as I would be out for the rest of the day, No came the reply, the postman has to deliver them. ???????????

Why?????????????? I had a handful of identification to prove who I was, Whats the problem? :-\

I've got to write to praise our Postie...........

Only a young chap but so good at his job.  He delivered a letter to me which was addressed to "Walsall Road Allotments, Birmingham".  It didn't have my name or address on and we have no letter-box at the allotments.  He said that he had seen an article in the local paper about the allotments which gave my name (but not my address) and he had worked it out.

My experience of postmen (and parcel force van drivers) agrees with everything above.

They can be brilliant (one holiday I sent an urgent postcard to a phone number - I didn't have the address and I was desperate - it was delivered on time).

At the other extreme they are often bloody atrocious.

I'm thinking of putting a webcam on the front door and activating it when stuff is due - at least it will be fair when I send the footage to OFF-whatever it is...

Wrongdoers beware!

Your parcel would be in the 'parcels waiting to be picked up' section, the rest of you mail somewhere else in the sorting office, it would be a big deal to go off and try and fetch it for you.

Had a parcel delivered, to be signed for and we weren't in.  so, I re=-directed it to our local post office(1.50 fee)
should've been at the p.o two weeks ago, I've visited three times and e mailed twice.
the first e mail told me they would investigate and get back to me within 3 to 5 days, this was 2nd dec, the second one, 14th, still no reply.
This was a present for my mum in law for Christmas  :-\

Yes I agree my parcels/mail would be somewhere else, right there above the posties frame where his letters are, All they had to do was pick them up from the frame, easy really, don't you think?

I occasionally get recorded delivery letters or parcels posted through the door without being asked to sign for them!  :o :o

How does that work?

Twice I had parcels left on the doorstep which shouldn't have been. Both were opened and items taken or broken.  Contacting and dealing with Royal Mail about these was so frustrating that both times I gave up in despair.
About one letter in ten never arrives, others for me go elsewhere and I often get mail for other addresses.

Were very lucky our post man lives a few doors away and if were not in we have a few hiding places he knows and he has been known to come back with the deliveries in the evening on his way back with the van to see if were home (uses bike for deliverys normaly).

Our postal service is Excellent!! our postie starts work at 4 am and last week when trying to catch up with the back log of post was working till 5.30pm.

Some of them walked miles to get into work in the bad weather.

We all take in parcels for each other on our road, if we are out a note on the door saying where to put a parcel is always acted on.

I do not doubt any of the experiances that other people have had but I just had to speak up for our posties!! :D

Regular receiver of other peoples mail from 2 different but similar addresses. They get ours and each others too. Also had parcels with hundreds of pounds worth of stuff dumped on the doorstep. Fortunately we live in a nice area so nothing goes missing  :)

DHL driver is great though and will deliver any parcels addressed to home to OH work.

Another thank you to our postman. Young Lorna recently left the charity where she has been working (now starting new job in charity locally). One of her previous volunteers, a young girl with learning difficulties  sent her a Christmas card addressed to no 319 instead of no 36. It arrived in MY post box with a note on it try 38, Understandable as we both have the initial L and have the same surname. Our regular guy is so pleasant and helpful.
