Title: banana shallots

My wife has found recipes for Banana Shallots. Any ideas as to what these are and where they can be obtained ?

As far as I am aware banana shallots are just the long shaped ones (Longor, etc.) as opposed to normal round ones, the long ones are supposed to taste better

Hi Peter, The only place I know where to get Banana shallots is in London. Long Red Florenc is the name. :"CityHerbs"- Johnlawless

Hi Lady Cosmos, the Long Red Florence you refer to is a variety of onion from Italy, seeds are also available from Seeds of Italy

Thanks everyone for the advice so far. I have found some shallots labelled as banana from the German grocery store LIDL. They are about 3 inches lond and golden. I don't know what variety they are, just labelled "Échalion" which I assume means Shallot or scallion. Anyway I'm going to plant them and see what happens.

            I looked it up on google it says they are shallots so you will be ok planting them..
If they had been onions they would have run to seed ..
