Title: Anyone on St Ann's site in Nottingham?
Post by: caroline7758 on December 12, 2010, 17:45:39
My niece is in her final year of an Art degree at Nottinham Trent university and will be basing her final project on the allotments at St Ann's. It looks like an amazing place, so I was wondering if anyone here knows it?

I'm sure we do... I was in contact with someone about their open days last year but it clashed with our Open Day so I couldn't go...  :-X

I would love to see that site.....480 plots! I'm interested to see they allow new brick buildings on plots......some of the older one look amazing! Perhaps we should try and organise a vist from our site David, they say on their site they do organised tours?

I'm not on St Anns though I am in Nottingham. Have always wanted to visit it, it is an amazing place. Interestingly it's on quite a steep hillside so they've had to do some impressive terracing, some of which you can see in their gallery. Plus I love the recycled plastic bottle greenhouse....hmmm....now there's a project for 2011 :)

It looks an interesting site but some of the sheds and greenhouses are a terrible eyesaw.  I am so glad they are banned on our site.

Right ho  then, I'll mention it at the next meeting and see if I can organise sometthing for when it's a bit warmer!

Yes, I'm intending to go to Ryton, I only finalised that yesterday as I was supposed to be a course in London that weekend but it has now been cancelled, so I have the weekend off! ;D ;D ;D

Is this the site which was on GW a few years ago with all the lovely old sheds/ buildings?
I have tried looking at the gallery but it is a bit laboriuous and the slideshow won't work for me.
If you need more people to make a group to visit let me know!
Anne x

I'm sure the old man will give a hand, but it may end up a beer bottle greenhouse  ;D

This page tells you a bit more.

I guess as it's in the middle of one of the most deprived estates in the UK, and a heritage site, it's been able to get the funding.

I forget the details but they got something like one and a half million from the lottery fund. Could be three million. I do remember it was a staggering amount.
