Title: Cheap seeds
Post by: Mrs Ava on January 03, 2005, 23:01:30
If you subscripe to Kitchen Garden mag you will have probably seen this advert, but there is a new website offering seeds for 50p a packet, orders over a fiver, no postage and packing.  The site is www.alanromans.com and has been launched by the potato guru Alan Romans who is apparently fed up with expensive seeds.  According to the mag, he is able to offer low priced because he doesn't use any fancy seed packets, the seeds just come in foil wrappers, the info for the seeds is provided on his website.

Just thought, with spring in the air, it might be worth a mention.

Phew. I had a look. And am glad to find nothing I wanted. Nothing too special there. I already have enough veg seeds to fill my whole garden. (but I'm not ripping out my prize aquilegias to accommodate them all!)

I couldn't help myself Emma Jane, when I saw the value offered I just thought it had to be worth a try.  :)
I know that quality is important, but my father-in-law has had Sutton's seeds fail before, probably due to soil or climate conditions etc but they cost a small fortune. He brought a packet of carrot seeds from France a few years ago that were tremendous value and we all enjoyed the best crop of carrots he had ever grown. Was it the seeds or just a good year for carrots? Perhaps a combination of both?

Thanks for the link!!  :D

Thanks EJ! First year allotmenting & still tonnes of clearing to do  ::) (see pic from first proper visit today!). But great deal, so I can start growing at home while I clear & don't have to have wasted a fortune if the odd crop fails!! Cheers! :)
