Here's another.  Apparently they shot any children who cried.  It takes a special kind of mentality to do that.

As you say, no wonder no-one trusts them.

The link you add doesn't have anything to do with American soldiers and doesn't mention shooting children.

I don't think the tens of thousands of civilians that we, the Brits, intentionally slaughtered in Dresden had much chance to duck! Still, we were the good guys so it's okay!

Merry Christmas everyone, ho ho ho!

Sorry chuck, but 'They have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.'

Tell that to the people of London, Birmingham, Coventry, Manchester, Liverpool, Southampton, Portsmouth, et al.

My parents lived in Burton upon Trent, and the night of the Coventry blitz, the sky over Burton, some 30-40 miles away glowed red from the fires.

They got their cumuppance.

These things probably always happen in war. It's fine to be anti American, but we're not always perfect, we're just always the goodies in our history lessons. We've intentionally killed civilians too - even if you feel it was okay.

Have a good Christmas!

Wars are horrid and pointless, BUT there have been times in history that they have been justified.

Sadly, first and second world wars are two such examples.

Kaiser Bill was a megalomaniac, intent on ruling the world, and Hitler was not much different.

Discuss.

Power spade beat me to the quote about every one ducking.

The money has gone and war seems to be unaffordable. It is the one good thing which has come out of the financial crisis.

Kaiser Bill was no more trying to rule the world than any of the other expansionist imperialist heads of state of the time. The truth about the First War is that it happened by accident. The heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist gang, so the empire declared war on Serbia. Serbia had a treaty with Russia, saying that if one went to war, the other would come in in support. So Russia declared war on the empire. France had a similar treaty with Russia, so they declarfed war. Germany had a treaty with the empire, so they joined in (and they didn't start it, they were one of the dominos which fell a little later). Britain ummed and erred and sat on the fence for a bit. Meanwhile Germany had a plan for a war with France (they had a history of going to war). It involved invading via Belgium, to avoid the French frontier fortifications. So they marched, and eventually Britain dredged up an old treaty with Belgium, and went to war. So the world ended up at war, over a single corpse.

In the end, it because a war of attrition, and it was a toss-up which side collapsed first. It was, of course, Germany, and they got blamed in a truly appalling settlement. Their economy collapsed under the weight of reparations for a war they never created, and this opened the way for the rise of Hitler. After that, the Second War became inevitable.
