I think someone posted a link to a site which made printing passport size photos easy but I forgot to save it. Anyone remember what it was?
Having just renewed the family's passports I can tell you that the UK passport office clearly states that they do not accept photos done at home.
I dare say that it is because the techniques available for altering photos could be used, removing wrinkles and improving other features.
It is the £5 a time machines available at a lot of shopping centres and supermarkets. A lot of photographers offer a service for £5.99 with a guarantee that the photo will be accepted.
However you are welcome to try

http://www.epassportphoto.com/ works well. You need to skip the page where they offer to print your pix for a fee, and you can then download the images ready for your own printer. Remember to use proper photo printing paper, not just ordinary inkjet paper.
Thanks both.
I should have mentioned that the photo is not for a passport, but for my grandson for college. He just needed one roughly the size of a passport photo.
Greenfists posted it under DIY passport photos and it is in bargains galore. ;D ;D ;D
