Title: Roses and honeysuckle attached to a collapsed arch
Post by: davholla on December 01, 2010, 14:21:09
On the entrance to my garden this is an arch.  The snow collapsed it and it is probably ruined.
Attached to it are a rose and honeysuckle.  Any advice?

One of my arches has collapsed under the weight of snow too. It has roses and clematis. Once the snow has thawed I'll chop them back until I can extract the arch and see what the damage is. The roses are ramblers and the clematis is a viticella so I'm pretty confident they'll survive being savaged by the secateurs and come back good as new.

I wish I were as confident that the arch will survive!!

I noticed this post further down the list and thought ...yep ! mine too ...... I will just have to get out there and invent a new one out of whatever I can find ... several trees need pruning ...so I,ll see what I can do with some of the branches I lop off .   I need to prune out some of the rose shoots first , then tie in the new shoots on to a cane wigwam for the time being ...at least after all the rain the ground is soft to push in sticks .    Count out my pennies  and see how much a new one would cost ?    Hmm Just thinking out loud  .  :D

Fortunately I could stand it up again - but the arch has been damaged and needs replacing :(

Build a new one, and make it stronger than the last. Two stout uprights and a crossbar is all you need.
