I have just ordered some central heating oil and was amazed at the cost! It has doubled in 12 months. :o
£1110.77 for 2000 litres and that was the cheapest quote!
One Company was asking £1250.97!! :o That is a difference of £140.20 !!
It obviously pays to shop around. ;)
Thank goodness for the pensioners fuel allowance but there will be no help for those families whose total income is barely enough to manage.
I remember back to the 1980's when we were in that position. Oil prices shot through the roof and mortgage interest payment had gone from 7% to 15% taking most of our income. I know how people will suffer today though, especially with this bitterly cold weather, as they try to find the money to heat their homes. They have my heartfelt sympathy.
Next year we will definitely be having a multi fuel stove installed.
Pauline when we moved into our house 38 years ago a full tank of oil, sorry don't know how big the tank was, cost us £24. We had gas brought into the village about 25 years ago. We changed our gas boiler last year & our payments went down from £73 a month to £34. It will probably go up with Winter coming early.
Unfortunately we do not have gas in our village. :'(
Your firsts figure Pauline is the amount I pay for oil at around 56p a litre. No gas in our village either. We are paying out £180 a month to cover the oil for the year, plus the service. I hate being cold though.
::)
my parents purchase their heating oil through a syndicate, where several folk purchase at once, getting a better price 'cos of the bulk purchase. are there any similar schemes nr you?
I use this site to monitor oil prices http://www.boilerjuice.com/heatingOilPrices.php you'll prob find prices drop considerably when the current cold spell goes. currently forecast to get warmer in a couple of weeks... if it does...
if you don't have to buy now, personally i'd wait till the snow goes and hopefully the prices drop... bit likes shares tho... prices can go up as well as down ;)
oops, edited... sorry... just seen you have ordered it :(
We are very low so I had to order it. Even now it could run out before we get a delivery which will be some time next week.
I have used the boilerjuice website in the past but didn't this time. I am sure that the price will drop when it warms up a bit but I need the oil now. I could kick myself for not having filled the tank earlier when it was probably cheaper.
I haven't heard of any syndicate schemes in the village. There is a company that will give a donation to our village reading room, half a pence for every litre, but their oil price is at the top end of the market.
