 ??? Hi, i`m new to this allotment thing, could anyone advise me as to weather i should dig in manure now or just turn the soil and let the winter do it`s work then add manure in the spring. thanks in advance for any help. Andy.

A warm welcome to A4S.  I rather think that manure should be dug in in Autumn so for me now is the time.  Do test manure by growing broad beans because lots of people have been caught out with contamination by herbicides.  Other people lay it one top and let the worms do the work of taking it underground.

I do hope you enjoy your allotment.  I have had mine nearly two year now and find it very addictive.

Dig the soil over, cover with manure, leave well alone till the new year.
Weather permitting dig over again, ready for planting.
But do not manure areas you want to plant Root vedge...carrots and parsnips..

I agree with Digindep. Turn the soil over and then spread the manure. The worms can do a better job of mixing it with the soil than you can. ;D

I agree and birds can pick out the seeds as well
